Chile’s SAUT turns 16, eyes international expansion

With 16 years of experience as a supplier of industrial automation products, Chilean company SAUT Automatización is looking to expand to new markets to address emerging demands from new industries and potential clients.

The company has consolidated its position as a top supplier to multiple economic sectors in Chile and for salmon-producing companies locally and abroad.

Now, SAUT is seeking to add cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning and edge computing to its portfolio and look for new markets.

16 years of technological achievements

Founded in 2005 in Puerto Montt (Chile), SAUT began providing technological solutions to mining, steel, and hydroelectric power companies and moved on to supply equipment to the salmon farming industry which was starting to build Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) in Chile. This experience brought the company RAS supply contracts all over the world, such as for Huon Aquaculture's Russell River (Tasmania) and Lerøy Seafood Group's Belsvik (Norway).

According to SAUT’s founder and CEO, Jorge Jaña, “we achieved great expertise with these projects and our products and services were highly valued. Five years ago, we started developing new solutions that incorporated computer vision and artificial intelligence.”

To date, the company has implemented automation technology in more than a hundred fish farms in over 10 countries, including Atlantic Sapphire's (USA) Bluehouse, the most iconic land-based salmon grow-out unit.

Eyeing globalization

Jorge Jaña is confident that the combination of SAUT's expertise, its certifications, links to academia and the quality of its products will stand it in good stead for expanding internationally. “In this process, we have already established contacts with Peruvian, American and Mexican producers,” he said. The company has been certified according to European and North American standards, including EN 61439, EN 60204 and UL508A.

According to Jaña, one of the company’s clients recently made the following comment about the benefits of using SAUT’s automated industrial monitoring and control solutions. “Beyond just integrating technologies, SAUT adds value to our productive processes and delivers the operational security that protects our investment.”
